A story fifteen years in the making, Speakers Corner Quartet started as the house band at the Speakers Corner open-mic night in Brixton, South London.
Made up of Biscuit, Kwake Bass, Peter Bennie, and Raven Bush, SCQ have previously have played with the likes of The Roots, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman and at the request of Turner Prize-winning artist Chris Ofili at his Tate exhibition.
In October of 2021, the band made a return to the stage in remarkable circumstances as they sold out the Main Hall of Barbican with an audience who had yet to hear a single note of music. Presenting all new music, the 3 hour show was their first show in ten years alongside a cast of friends, family and close collaborators.
Chris Sharp the Barbican Contemporary Music Programmer commented: "In a couple of years, thousands of people are going to be pretend they were there on Tuesday night !"
On 23rd May 2024, the band were awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song for their track 'Geronimo Blues' featuring Kae Tempest.
