As Fazerdaze, Amelia Murray transforms bedroom recordings into stadium-sized shoegaze and dream-pop. Based in Christchurch, the Indonesian Pākehā musician, singer-songwriter, and producer emerged in New Zealand’s early 2010s indie-rock scene before signing to Flying Nun Records and releasing her debut album Morningside (2017). She then toured Australia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States, culminating in an appearance at Coachella in 2018.
Across Morningside, Murray explored the anxieties of early adulthood for a generation adrift in the same currents. Following its breakout success, she turned inward, spending four years processing a succession of personal and professional upheavals before returning with the ’90s alt-rock inspired Break! EP (2022). After reconnecting with her international audience, she joined Lorde on her 2023 Solar Power New Zealand tour.
In 2024, Murray unveiled her second album, Soft Power. Balancing the vulnerability of Morningside with the heft of Break!, she reconciled her intimate and expansive impulses through her own feminine lens. Reflecting the enveloping worldview of Soft Power, she performed live on KEXP in Seattle and played shows in the US with Pond. The next year, she won Best Solo Artist and Album of the Year at the 2025 Aotearoa Music Awards before returning to the US for a series of headline shows and a tour with Pixies and Spoon.
Murray is currently writing and recording towards Fazerdaze’s third LP, provisionally due for release in 2027.
