Duval Timothy

Duval’s work explores identity, place and abstraction with a focus on communicating feeling through a distinct application of chords and colour. The piano is the foundation of Duval’s musical practice which expands to employ field recordings, production and writing for many other instruments.

Via his own label Carrying Colour, Duval has released albums including ‘Rain Music’ with Carlos Niño, ‘Wishful Thinking’, ‘Meeting with a Judas Tree’, ‘Son’ with Rosie Lowe, ‘Help’ and ‘Brown Loop’.

Duval co-composed the score to BAFTA winning feature film ‘My Father’s Shadow’ by Akinola Davies Jr. which was nominated for best score at the BIFAs, won best score at AMVCA awards and was listed as one of Crack Magazine’s 50 greatest film scores of the 21st century. Production and compositions include Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Vegyn, Martyn, Mount Kimbie, Nosaj Thing, Cktrl, Wales Bonner, Cooking Sections and more.

Duval has presented work internationally including the Tate Modern, V&A, Southbank Centre, Barbican and ICA, London. MOMA, New York, SESC, Sao Paolo, Centro Botín, Santander and more.

Duval lives and works between London, UK and Freetown, Sierra Leone.
