Bibio, AKA Stephen Wilkinson, born and raised in the West Midlands, started gravitating towards music at an early age, tinkering on electronic keyboards. Around the age of 11 he started to learn guitar. Although his early teenage passion was for rock and metal, he discovered jazz, hip-hop and electronic music around the age of 16 and started to branch out end explore other types of music. As a self taught musician and producer, he found his own way by taking influences from various genres and started out producing music with lofi and budget equipment. He studied Sonic Arts at University in north London between 1999-2002 and it was during this time that he started to produce the first tracks under the Bibio name.

Starting out making predominantly lofi guitar-based tunes, he developed his skills as a musician and producer, as well as building his studio and gear list over time. His first album on Warp, Ambivalence Avenue, was the start of a dramatic change in his sound, expanding his repertoire into many styles and genres.
